Lake Cathie/Lake Innes Estuarine System used to be the biggest inland waterway on the coast of Australia. Over the years, construction and man-made attempts to control the flow and levels of the Lake and Lagoon have led to dramatic shifts in the water levels.
These changing water levels have resulted in frequent contamination of the lake water, which becomes filled with runoff and is exposed to acid sulphate and ferrous iron. These surfactants severely contaminate the water, making it uninhabitable for all wildlife and dangerous to people.
It's a hazardous cycle that keeps happening. At Revive Lake Cathie, our efforts are focused on research-backed, long-term solutions to restore the Lake for wildlife and people alike.
